A Trip to Nandankana

Nandankanan Zoological Park is a 437-hectare (1,080-acre) zoo and botanical garden in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It was established in 1960, it was opened to the public in 1979. It became the first zoo in India to join the World Association of zoo and Aquariums in 2009.

There are 2 ways to reach Nandankanan Zoo. If you are coming to form Cuttack then the best and lowest road to overcome is Barang.

If you are from Bhubaneswar then you will pick up Patia road to reach the zoo.

I and my husband started our journey from Bhubaneswar around noon time. Within 45min we reached at the zoo.

There are lots of local food shops in front of the zoo. If you want to take any snaks then make it sure, you need to finish that snakes there only. As there is a provision you can’t take any cooked food or snacks inside the place.

Ticket Counter

Then you entered to Nandankanan. The ticket price per person is INR 60. Only one person can go inside the ticket counter and buy the ticket for the family. Then on the next checking point, the persons will check the food items, any kind of polythene item you are carrying. You need to put all these items there. Then on the next counter if you have a water bottle then the will pay an amount of Rs50. to carry the bottle. This amount is returnable. When you return you can collect the amount from the counter.

Once you entered you can see a Water Fountain in the Park. There mentioned all the ways of the entire zoo on the hanging board. You need to check that first, then decide where you want to start your journey.

Safari Time

Safari Ride

First, we decided to take the Safari riding. There are 4-5 buses available for Safari riding. The ticket per person is Rs. 60. Once bought the ticket we stand in the queue and then we took our safari bus. After 10 min our bus started to the most exciting Safari ride. It is 45 minutes of bus tours in four different safaris i.e. Tiger, Lion, Bear and Deer Safari.

Lion safari

Our bus is very close to them so that we will see them closely. But they are hiding them in the tree as the sun is very strong in the day. While leaving the tiger Safari we have seen lots of beautiful peacocks.
Then we move to Lion safari. But unfortunately, we failed to see them very closely. They are very tires due to day time.

I think they wanted to sleep at that time. Our bus stops there for 15-20 min so that we can see the lions closely. Finally, we can able to see 2 lions who are in a relaxed mode.

Lion Safari

Tiger Safari

Our first trip is to visit Tiger Safari. We see the white tiger. They are in the mood of sleeping. Its a mid day time, so obviously they are not in a good mood to see us.

Our bus is very close to them so that we will see them closely. But they are hiding them in the tree as the sun is very strong in the day. While leaving the tiger Safari we have seen lots of beautiful peacocks.

Tiger Safari

Deer Safari

Then we move to Deer safari. This place is very safe. So our bus driver guide opens the door, but we can’t go outside the bus.

We see lots of deer are eating the leaf, grass, etc. Some are watching us. The face of deer is so amazing and innocent. I just love to see them.

Deer Safari

Beer Safari

Now we come out from Deer Safari and enter into Bear Safari. Our guide advises us to be cautious. As the bears may come to the window. We see the bears very closely.

They are a minimum of 3-4 bears, whom we see. One of a bear is standing in front of my window. I was a little scared, but it didn’t do any harm.

Deer Safari

This is an amazing safari ride. After Safari time we have our lunch. Then we book 2 tickets for boating. The boating price is Rs50. per person. We spend 30minutues on a water boat. It was an awesome experience.

Boating Ride

Now its time to see the animals in their homes. So first we reach at Tiger, then Lions, Giraffe, Bears, Monkies, etc. Lots of birds are in their mini-homes. It was already 5 pm and time to close the zoo. So we speed up to see all the other animals. But missed the aquarium and the toy section of Nandankanan.

But it was quite an amazing experience. We capture lots of good memories on my camera.

I appreciate the steps taken by Odisha Govt to clean up the entire zoo area.

I hope my experience will help someone. Share your view on the comment section.
